Social media: keeping us young at heart

Is it possible to fall in love with the residents of a Canadian nursing home? I think I just did.

One of my Facebook friends showed me a wonderful video spoof from the residents of Waverly Mansion (a.k.a. the Waverly Mansion Retirement Residence), a nursing home in London, Ontario. The residents are lip-syncing to Carly Rae Jepson’s “Call Me Maybe”.

I watched it this past Monday, and I’m still giggling. It’s a true social media gem — you can easily see how much fun they’re having with this video and the friendship between the residents.

And if you thought THAT was funny, see what they do with Psy’s “Gangnam Style”.

This is why I love social media. It’s got the ability to connect people of different ages and shows that while the Waverly Mansion residents may be elderly, they’re still vital, full of life and possess the ability to make the rest of us laugh.

Can I please be them when I’m their age? I’ll do my best.

  1. I hope I’m so fun loving at their age.

  2. Those are the best videos EVER! Made me really emotional, in a good way. Love it! Thanks for sharing 🙂

  3. love this–they better have Led Zepplin in concert when I am in a retirement home!

  4. I have to be honest here, the videos bothered me a little. I don’t know why. It felt a little like they were making fun of the seniors. But that is just me.

  5. You’ve just shared something positive about social media–the humorous, fun, playful side of it. That’s what I would like to embrace as an elder some day.

Die alten Leutchen aus Kanada haben sichtlich Spaß und scheinen richtig gut drauf zu sein. Ich liebe diese Videos – thank you so much for showing Eagle-Eyed-Editor!!!
